# What You Need to Know About the Topside Float

There are a few things to keep in mind about the topside float system:

* You must still adhere to the separation requirements listed [here](/c/ethernet-rov-locator/rovl-mounting/topside-mounting.md).
* Do not use the transducer cable to lift the assembly into and out of the water, or to tether the assembly to the boat or dock, or to tow the assembly. Use the supplied tether rope.
* This unit is not designed to be towed during operation or to be operated while tethered in a current.
* Rinse the float assembly with fresh water after immersing in salt water. Be sure to run fresh water down the central vent hole.
* Always extend the lowest section of the sting when operating to prevent the ballast from interfering with the magnetic compass.
