Note: Blue Robotics calls the Wi-Fi radios "routers" in their documentation

Select the configurationarrow-up-right that meets your objective for the radio.

General Notes That Apply to All the Steps Below

  • Programming the radios requires the Mikrotik WinBox program. Download it here: https://mikrotik.com/downloadarrow-up-right — Look for the "WinBox" tab.

  • If a pop-up asks you to change the password, we recommend always saying "no" (leave blank, close window, etc.) If you decide you need a different password you can come back later after the configuration is correct. If you decide to change the password, remember it.

  • Changing the configuration requires removing the installed configuration. Installed configurations usually need a password (default is "admin"). When configurations are removed the password is blank. As you go through the process you may need to log in with no password (leave the password box blank) or you may need to put in a password.

  • These instructions apply to the Wi-Fi Client radio in an Wi-Fi Omnitrack as well as the Wi-Fi Access Point radio used with a Network Hubarrow-up-right. They are the same radio but have different configurations.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Ensure the antenna is connected to the radio.

  2. Use a Network Hubarrow-up-right if you have one. Connect the Network Hub to the computer and plug the Ethernet cable from the radio into the "Omnitrack/ROVL/Wi-Fi" RJ-45 jack. This jack will supply power to the radio as well as bridging the Ethernet to your PC. If you do not have a Network Hub, you will need to rig up an Ethernet connection to your PC, with passive power-over-Ethernet (POE), POE voltage between 10 and 30 volts.

  3. Open the WinBox program. Download it here: https://mikrotik.com/downloadarrow-up-right — Look for the "WinBox" tab. Make sure the "Neighbors" tab is selected. Select the radio from the list (example circled) and click connect. If the radio is not present, try clicking Refresh and waiting a few moments. If there are multiple radios in the list, disconnect all the radios except the one you are trying to program and start over.

  4. If the radio has been reset or does not have a configuration already, you may see this screen. Click remove configuration. Go to step 6.

  5. If the radio has a configuration, you will see the screen below (depending on the radio, you might need to click the "Quick Set" item on the left-hand menu).

  6. Click "Reset Configuration" or "Reset Configuration." The radio should reboot. It takes quite a long time to finish the reboot, a minute or more. During this time, WinBox will attempt to reconnect every few seconds. Eventually, you should see the screen below. Note the password error, if you recall the general notes above you will need to delete the password and leave it blank. Then click "Connect".

  7. After the password is accepted, you should see the following screen. Click the "Remove Configuration" button.

  8. You should now see a screen similar to the one below. Click the "Files" item on the left-hand menu.

  9. You should now see the screen below. Drag and drop the correct configuration (.rsc) file into the "File List" window. This is the file you selected when you looked herearrow-up-right.

  10. In this case, we dragged and dropped the file "OmnitrackAccessPoint_Rev0.rsc", and it now shows up on the list file.

  11. Navigate to New Terminal on the left navigation pane. If it asks if you want to see the software license, say "N". Using Notepad, copy and paste the text from the Terminal Command file that matches the .rsc file into Terminal window. Notepad and WinBox sometimes have trouble with pasting, so check the command and delete any garbage at the start or the end of the command (the text in the WinBox window should be the same as the text in the Notepad window). If worst comes to worst, just carefully type it in by hand. Press Enter. If the radio asks for an "interface:", press Enter again and ignore the error. The command for this file was /import OmnitrackAccessPoint_Rev0.rsc. If it asks to change the password just close the window.

  12. Cycle the power on the radio. If the radio asks you to change the password, press Cancel or set a new password if you desire. If you change it, remember it.

  13. After the radio reboots, Navigate to the Quick Set menu (top option on left-hand navigation pane).

  14. For BlueBoat BaseStation or Omnitrack BaseStation Plus (access point configuration) only: Check that the following settings are configured (substitute BaseStation values for Omnitrack if you are emulating a BlueBoat BaseStation). Then you are done.

  15. For BlueBoat or Omnitrack Client Only: You may need to expand the WinBox window. Make sure the access point (BaseStation or BaseStation Plus) is operating. Select PTP Bridge CPE from the dropdown menu. Find the SSID of your network in the list. It will be OmnitrackAP - 2.4GHz or BaseStation - 2.4GHz depending on what you are setting up. Enter the password (OmnitrackAP for OmnitrackAP, blueboat for BaseStation).

  16. Verify that the status says connected to ess.

  17. That's it!
