Configuring a BaseStation Plus Wi-Fi Radio or a Omnitrack Wi-Fi Radio

Note: Blue Robotics calls the Wi-Fi radios "routers" in their documentation

Select the configuration that meets your objective for the radio.

Programming the radios requires the Mikrotik WinBox program. Download it here: https://mikrotik.com/download

  1. Ensure the antenna is connected to the radio. Connect the radio to the computer and power it up (9-12V DC). It needs a direct wired connection. The BaseStation Plus will work as-is. To program the radio in the Wi-Fi module, you will need to removed the battery cap and the battery, then unscrew the tube from the antenna-end cap. Unplug the radio RJ-45 cable and connect a power-over-ethernet injector and cable. The POE will need 12 to 24 V.

  2. Open the WinBox program. Make sure the "Neighbors" tab is selected. Select the radio from the list (example circled) and click connect. If the radio is not present, try clicking Refresh and waiting a few moments. If there are multiple radios in the list, disconnect all the radios except the one you are trying to program and start over.

  3. If the radio has been reset or does not have a configuration already, you will see this screen. Click remove configuration. A window will pop up to reset the password. You can set a new password (the old password is empty), or cancel and continue with the default blank password. Go to step 6.

  4. If the radio has been configured before, it may need a password. If so, it's either one you picked or it's the one we picked: admin. It may also be blank (no password).

  5. Click Remove Configuration from the pop-up. If the radio doesn't reboot, cycle the power.

  6. Once connected, click the Files option on the left-hand navigation pane.

  7. Drag and drop the correct configuration (.rsc) file into the file list. This is the file you selected when you looked here.

  8. Navigate to New Terminal on the left navigation pane. Using Notepad, copy and paste the text from the Terminal Command file that matches the .rsc file into Terminal window. Notepad and WinBox sometimes have trouble with pasting, so check the command and delete any garbage at the start or the end of the command (the text in the WinBox window should be the same as the text in the Notepad window). Press Enter. If the radio asks for an "interface:", press Enter again and ignore the error.

  9. Cycle the power on the radio. If the radio asks you to change the password, press Cancel or set a new password if you desire. If you change it, remember it.

  10. After the radio reboots, Navigate to the Quick Set menu (top option on left-hand navigation pane).

  11. For BlueBoat BaseStation or Omnitrack BaseStation Plus (access point configuration) only: Check that the following settings are configured (substitute BaseStation values for Omnitrack if you are emulating a BlueBoat BaseStation). Then you are done.

  12. For BlueBoat or Omnitrack Client Only: You may need to expand the WinBox window. Make sure the access point (BaseStation or BaseStation Plus) is operating. Select PTP Bridge CPE from the dropdown menu. Find the SSID of your network in the list. It will be OmnitrackAP - 2.4GHz or BaseStation - 2.4GHz depending on what you are setting up. Enter the password (OmnitrackAP for OmnitrackAP, blueboat for BaseStation).

  13. Verify that the status says connected to ess.

  14. That's it!
