Battery Safety and Protecting Your Battery

Blue Robotics has a nice description of how to keep your batteries working and how batteries work.

The Wi-Fi module does not have an internal battery management system. It is up to you to make sure you do not damage your batteries by over-discharging them.

You must follow these steps to prevent damage to the battery supplies with your Omnitrack Wi-Fi:

  • Always use a balance charger to charge your battery. Presumably your already have a balance charger for your Blue ROV battery. If not, get a balance charger that will work with 4S (four cell) Lithium-Ion batteries.

  • Be sure to shut your Wi-Fi module off after use. Running a battery all the way down usually ruins it.

  • Remove the battery from the Wi-Fi whenever practical.

  • Be conservative in your battery usage. The supplied battery can run about 10 hours on a full charge. It's good practice to recharge after every use, and to limit the time used to about 5 hours.

  • Shipping regulations require batteries to be shipped with less than 30% charge. Charge your battery before its first use.
