# Surveyor + NMEA Heading/Position

{% hint style="info" %}
This is just the SonarView portion of the instructions. For the detailed hardware requirements and device specific instructions, refer [here](/c/surveyor-240-16/platform-specific-setup/nmea-position-heading-source.md)
{% endhint %}

1. Add your Surveyor to the devices list:

{% hint style="info" %}
As a reminder, if the Surveyor is on your network, you can use the "Detect Devices" button to autopopulate the fields.
{% endhint %}

2. After saving, add the NMEA gateway:

3. Add a new session with both devices:

Here's where you should be at:

With the Surveyor powered on the network and the gateway properly configured as described in the [Surveyor instructions](/c/surveyor-240-16/platform-specific-setup/nmea-position-heading-source.md), you should now be able to connect to this session in discovery and use the Surveyor with GPS heading and position.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.ceruleansonar.com/c/sonarview/session-configurations/surveyor-+-nmea-heading-position.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
