Interface Connection Options for the Topside ROV Locator in an Omnitrack System

The Omnitrack system is designed to be flexible to fit into user systems without much disruption. There are two interface points between Omnitrack components and user systems:

  • The ROVL transponder / transmitter on the ROV

  • The ROVL transceiver / receiver to the ROV's tether network

The ROVL transponder / transmitter is well-defined and has only one practical option, so we will focus here on the topside.

The key requirements are:

  • You must provide power to the ROVL

  • You must get Omnitrack data to and from the ROV via its tether network capability.

There are multiple ways to achieve this, and we will list the most practical ones in the following subsections.
